Beer Barge Bash!

The third annual beer barge bash in Yellowknife Northwest Territories was another great success.
Starting out as a one off event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Yellowknife, the success of the event propelled it into a yearly fundraiser for the NWT Mining Heritage Society.

New Training Facility for NWT Airport

A new burn structure has been added to the NWT Emergency Services Training Centre. The modular structure, designed for firefighters and rescue crews to practice scenarios for the battling of structure fires, was officially opened Thursday June 9, 2011.

The Diavik Recsue crew uses the Jaws of Life to cut the ceremonial chain to officially open the new training centre.

Washing Cars for the Cure

The Yellowknife Fire Department put on a bit of a show today, June 5, as their fundraising car wash turned heads.

Yellowknifer’s came out in droves. One group of girls even brought three different vehicles by the car wash they were having so much fun.

But no one enjoyed the day as much as the YKFD themselves. Laughing the afternoon away, they made sure everyone left with a smile.

Concrete Toboggan

Doug Braden and Morgan Boswell lead a team of SAIT engineering students in building a concrete sled for the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race being held in Edmonton Jan 27, 2011. The team is made up of 15 SAIT students from both Civil Engineering Technology and the SAIT League of Engineering Technology Students.
