[column_one_fourth]The second annual NWT SPCA Dessert Gala was an amazing success, raising over $24,000 for the shelter in just a few hours.
I was over joyed to hear that the photo booth that I volunteered my time to run contributed $1,000 to that total.
The whole evening was amazing. Jaws dropped as people waled into the Explorer Hotel’s often used banquet rooms to see that it had been completely transformed to fit the theme of the evening: burlesque. Black and red adorned ever piece of furniture, white feather centre pieces and splashes plastic diamonds that added a flare to the scene that screamed fancy.
A trio of performers who danced, sang and played piano, regaled the crowd with their skill and spiced the night up even more.
At the centre of it all were the desserts. Two were auctioned off in a live auction, with particularly voluptuous cake dubbed Puppy on Puppies going for $1,100.
The team behind the NWT SPCA, who spend about 20 volunteer hours a week making sure everything is taken care of at the shelter: food for the animals, organizing volunteers, paying bills, checking adoption applications, caring for dogs who are sick, and the list goes on and on. These people are truly selfless in what they do. And if you want to get involved, here is their webpage: http://nwtspca.weebly.com/
